November brings the first truly cold weather. We get our coats out, turn on the heating and spend more time indoors. These changes are particularly noticeable in two areas of our body that are in direct contact with the outside world: our skin and mucous membranes.
Your natural barriers
The skin is the body’s largest organ and acts as a physical barrier. Mucous membranes line the inside of the nose, mouth, respiratory tract, digestive system and eyes, and are kept moist by secretions such as mucus and tears.
What happens to them during the colder months?
Cold outdoor air contains little moisture, and indoor heating reduces humidity levels even further. The skin tends to become dry, particularly on the hands, lips and face. It is also common to experience increased dryness in the nose and eyes in heavily heated environments.
5 simple ways to care for them this winter
- Drink water even when you are not thirsty.
- Moisturise your skin after showering and protect your hands and lips when going outside.
- Maintain a comfortable level of indoor humidity: between 40% and 60% is ideal.
- Air your rooms for a few minutes every day.
- Avoid using very hot water when showering.
Vitamin A, skin and mucous membranes
Vitamin A contributes to the maintenance of normal skin and mucous membranes, as well as to the normal function of the immune system.
It can be found in liver, eggs and dairy products. Carrots, spinach, pumpkin and sweet potatoes provide beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A.

PLESINOX 3A is a food supplement containing Polypodium leucotomos extract (EPL), vitamin A, vitamin C and selenium. Its daily dose of 2 capsules provides 800 µg of vitamin A, equivalent to 100% of the Nutrient Reference Value (NRV).
